Tsuba

Saotome iron kiku tsuba with hammered silver fill. Identical to known Muromachi period examples. Uniform patina; a very nice tsuba and well worth submitting for papers.

Dimensions 2.70 inches (68.60 mm) x 2.50 inches (63.60 mm) x 0.17 inches (4.40 mm). Size of nakago-ana 1.09 inches (27.60 mm) x 0.37 inches (9.50 mm).

Fuchi-Kashira


Edo period silver and copper fuchi-kashira with takabori carved wood grain design and gold shitodome.

External dimensions of kashira 1.33 inches (33.90 mm) x 0.79 inches (20.10 mm). External dimensions of fuchi 1.46 inches (37.20 mm) x 0.84 inches (21.40 mm). Size of nakago-ana 1.08 inches (27.50 mm) x 0.37 inches (9.50 mm).

An exquisite Goto school fuchi-kashira depicting Ebisu, probably 16th-17th century. Shakudo, with takabori carving and kin-iroe on migakiji, with gold shitodome.

Ebisu is the Japanese god of fishermen, good luck, and working men, as well as the guardian of the health of small children. He is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune (Shichifukujin), and the only one of the seven to originate from Japan.

External dimensions of kashira 1.26 inches (32.10 mm) x 0.75 inches (19.10 mm). External dimensions of fuchi 1.46 inches (37.10 mm) x 0.83 inches (20.90 mm). Size of nakago-ana 0.87 inches (22.20 mm) x 0.26 inches (6.50 mm).

Fuchi-kashira depicting a tiger and bamboo grove signed by Ishiyama Mototada. Shakudo, silver and gold, with gold shitodome. A superb piece of work that should be submitted for papers.

Ishiyama Mototada (1672 - 1734) was a student of the Kyoto Goto School. He was also an accomplished member of the Kano School of painting, as well as a prolific composer of haiku.

External dimensions of kashira 1.38 inches (35.10 mm) x 0.70 inches (17.90 mm). External dimensions of fuchi 1.47 inches (37.40 mm) x 0.85 inches (21.50 mm). Size of nakago-ana 1.18 inches (30.00 mm) x 0.37 inches (9.30 mm).

Edo period fuchi-kashira, takabori carving and kin-iroe on nanakoji. The kashira shows a mounted samurai in full armour whilst the fuchi shows the samurai resting in a grove of trees. With gold shitodome.

External dimensions of kashira 1.35 inches (34.40 mm) x 0.78 inches (19.90 mm). External dimensions of fuchi 1.52 inches (38.60 mm) x 0.91 inches (23.10 mm). Size of nakago-ana 1.18 inches (29.90 mm) x 0.28 inches (7.10 mm).
