Period: Kanbun era, Edo period.

Mei: Sunshu ju Fujiwara Kanesada.

Sugata: Shinogi-zukuri, tori-zori, iori-mune.

Overall length: 37.09 inches (942.00 mm)

Nagasa: 29.02 inches (737.00 mm) long.

Nakago: Ubu, 8.07 inches (205.00 mm), , one mekugi-ana. The yasurime are .

Kissaki: Chu-kissaki, 1.27 inches (32.25 mm). The boshi is .

Moto-haba: 1.25 inches (31.70 mm). Moto-gasane: 0.32 inches (8.23 mm). Saki-haba: 0.91 inches (23.10 mm). Saki-gasane: 0.24 inches (6.00 mm).

Sori: 0.59 inches (15.00 mm)

Hamon: Nie-deki suguha with thick nezumiashi and small ashi in the edge.

Hada: Ko-itame and masame hada. Well grained, with ji-nie.

Blade condition:

In good polish with very minor surface scratches.

Mounts:

In koshirae (see pictures). Moko iron tsuba picturing sails and Mount Fuji. The fuchi-kashira pictures a traveller walking (the kashira) and enjoying a drink of sake at the end of his journey (the fuchi). The shakudo menuki are of a flower.

Comments:

A very nice sword. Fujiwara Kanesada was working in Suruga when he made this sword. He didn't make many swords, so there are few of his works around.
